One Day Films Critique

One Day Films makes prodigious use of CSS for layout and a clean grayscale palette to achieve a sophisticated, useable and polished web site.

Purpose

One Day Films Limited was founded by Erik Knudsen and is based in the United Kingdom. Initially, it appears the site seems to be Knudsen's personal vehicle for propagating and promoting his own films however, the company has an extensive range of contributors to it's site and has extensive contacts in the media industry. The motivation for developing the site as a highly innovative Accessible web site is possibly for philosophical reasons and the passion of the designer.

Presentation

A simple black and white colour set is contrasted by a fast site with clean and sophisticated layout. The online store works efficiently and is easy to use (without the shopping cart metaphor). Overall a simple navigation structure with good use of spacing and limited colour only used for links.

Site Accessibility

Checking the site with the Bobby Validation tool the following items were indicators of items to check:

  • 2 instances of colour to convey information, make sure the information is also represented another way.
  • 1 instance of an image conveys important information beyond what is in its alternative text, provide an extended description.
  • 1 instance of not using the same link phrase more than once when the links point to different URL's.

Overall this site makes good use of tab indexes, CSS and well structured code to provide an effective and stylish Accessible web site.
